1 egg, slightly beaten
⅔ cup sugar
½ cup milk
3 1-oz squares baking chocolate
1 cup sugar
½ cup butter, soft
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup milk
Combine the first four ingredients in a saucepan and cook and stir over medium heat until mixture comes to just boiling. Set aside to cool.
Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add vanilla and eggs, mixing well.
Sift together flour and baking soda, and add to butter mixture alternately with the milk, mixing after each addition.
Mix in chocolate mixture.
Bake in two greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans at 350F for 25 to 30 minutes.
